Bastien Vautier has decided to leave Cholet Basket

Mathis Dossou-Yovo (2.06 m, 24 years old), French center, could soon join Cholet. After a 2024-2025 season split between Germany and France, the player is being courted by several Betclic ELITE clubs, including Cholet, Strasbourg and Nanterre.
Bastien Vautier’s confirmed departure is pushing Cholet Basket to strengthen their frontcourt. The Loire Valley club would like to focus on Mathis Dossou-Yovo, whom Fabrice Lefrançois knows well from coaching him at Évreux. The current Cholet coach sees in this profile a center capable of succeeding Neal Sako and Bastien Vautier.
Cholet’s advantage? The prospect of playing in next season’s Champions League (BCL), an attractive European competition for a player coming from Paris, where he played in EuroLeague this year.
But Cholet isn’t alone in pursuit. Nanterre 92, already interested in Dossou-Yovo in summer 2024, has repositioned itself. The context has changed: there’s no BCL campaign to offer, but Julien Mahé, who truly launched Mathis Dossou-Yovo’s career at SQBB between 2022 and 2024, has joined the club.
Strasbourg has also made a concrete offer. SIG’s sporting project, under reconstruction, includes a desire to invest in promising French players. The situation remains open even though Cholet seems to have a slight edge.
After choosing to try his luck abroad in summer 2024, Mathis Dossou-Yovo quickly became disillusioned in Oldenburg. Despite decent BBL statistics (9.0 points and 5.4 rebounds in 13 games), he didn’t find the fulfillment he hoped for in a club where the coach changed. His mid-season return to France with Paris Basketball didn’t result in big statistical production (5.3 points, 3.2 rebounds in 15 games), but allowed him to stay in the elite league and taste EuroLeague competition.
At 24, Mathis Dossou-Yovo is entering a pivotal period. He’s looking to settle in a club where he can fully express himself and showcase his talents on the continental stage with the goal of moving abroad again later. The Cholet project, led by a coach he knows and including a European campaign, seems to offer an ideal context. However, competition is fierce, and his choice could be decisive for his career progression.
