Yoan Makoundou‘s (2.07m, 25 years old) transition to the CBA (Chinese Basketball Association) is going remarkably well. In his third appearance wearing the Fujian Sturgeons colors, the French center reached a new individual milestone during his team’s victory over the Nanjing Monkey Kings (95-81).
This first double-double since his departure from Europe demonstrates his immediate physical impact in the Chinese championship. Well supported by American point guard QJ Peterson who caught fire with 42 points, the Frenchman served as the defensive anchor and ideal second scoring option to secure this precious road win.
Strong numbers with room for improvement
After three games played, Yoan Makoundou‘s statistics confirm his express integration into the league:
- Points: 17.7
- Rebounds: 8.3
- Blocks: 1.0
- Playing time: 21 minutes
While his contribution is undeniable, the Frenchman still needs to fine-tune his ball protection. With 3.7 turnovers per game, he acknowledges his current « weakness, » a necessary area for improvement to optimize his efficiency as the CBA pace is particularly intense.
Thanks to this second consecutive victory, the Fujian Sturgeons climb to 16th place in the standings with a record of 10 wins and 16 losses. They surpass their opponents of the day, the Nanjing Monkey Kings (18th), who slide toward the bottom of the table. The next match is scheduled for March 19th with the home reception of Javale McGee‘s Beijing Ducks, currently 5th in the standings.
