Yoan Makoundou heading to FC Barcelona

Yoan Makoundou (2.07m, 24 years old) continues his European journey. On loan these past two seasons from AS Monaco, the French center who came through Cholet Basket is in advanced discussions with FC Barcelona. A prestigious destination for the Frenchman, who is coming off a convincing season at Türk Telekom Ankara.
Heading towards signing with Barça
According to Ouest-France, FC Barcelona could well be the next step in Yoan Makoundou’s career. The 2.07m power forward, who played for Cholet then AS Monaco, has been on loan these past two seasons, first to Buducnost Podgorica, then to Türk Telekom Ankara. In EuroCup, he had a solid campaign averaging 11.3 points and 4.9 rebounds.
Still under contract with Monaco until 2026, the French international with 13 caps is not expected to return to the Principality. Barça, who compete in EuroLeague, has reportedly taken the lead over other interested clubs, including ASVEL. While nothing is signed yet, the deal appears to be well underway.

A potential that attracts Europe
Noticed since his professional debut at Cholet, Makoundou was named Best Young Player in the Basketball Champions League (BCL) during the 2020-2021 season. Undrafted in the 2022 NBA Draft, he then signed a four-year contract with AS Monaco, before going on successive loans abroad.
His athletic profile and versatility at the power forward position have attracted attention from several European clubs. FC Barcelona, looking to refresh their frontcourt, sees him as a high-potential addition capable of making an impact in the rotation.
A new major challenge
If he signs in Catalonia, Makoundou will discover Liga Endesa, one of Europe’s most competitive leagues, and return to EuroLeague, where he can reach a new level. After proving himself in EuroCup, he may be about to join the continental elite.
For Yoan Makoundou, this transfer to Barcelona would be another step in a well-managed career marked by successive development stages. At 24, he still has significant room for improvement at a club built for the highest level. With a stint with the French national team this summer before joining his future destination?
