Tyrese Maxey injures finger: 76ers lose their leader for at least two games
Tyrese Maxey is suffering from a sprained right pinky finger and will miss at least the next two games for the Philadelphia 76ers. The All-Star was injured during the loss against Atlanta this weekend.

The Philadelphia 76ers will have to manage without their best player. Tyrese Maxey has been ruled out for at least the next two games after injuring his right pinky finger during the 126-116 loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday night.
The injury occurred with 16 seconds remaining in the game when the All-Star guard collided with teammate Adem Bona while attempting to recover a loose ball. Maxey immediately grabbed his right hand and left the court in pain, heading straight to the locker room with his hand tucked inside his jersey.

Additional tests to determine length of absence
The team announced Sunday that Maxey is suffering from a sprained finger on his right hand and will undergo additional testing to determine a treatment plan. The 76ers specified that no update would be provided until after the back-to-back scheduled for Monday in Cleveland against the Cavaliers and Tuesday at home against Memphis.
This injury comes at the worst possible time for a team already decimated by absences. Joel Embiid has missed the last four games due to a right oblique injury, while Paul George is serving a 25-game suspension for violating the NBA‘s anti-drug policy.
Maxey is having an exceptional season, averaging 29 points, 6.7 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 2 steals per game. He ranks fourth in the NBA in scoring and had only missed two games this season due to illness in December. The 24-year-old guard had led the 76ers with 31 points against Atlanta before his injury.
A critical situation for the playoffs
This new absence further weakens the 76ers’ (34-29) position in the standings. The team currently holds eighth place in the Eastern Conference, meaning a play-in tournament spot, with only a 1.5-game lead over the Hawks and 2.5 games over the Charlotte Hornets who are climbing in the standings.
The Philadelphia franchise is going through a difficult period with three losses in their last four games, after spending considerable time in the conference’s top 6. Without their three main stars, the 76ers will have to rely on the rest of the roster to maintain their playoff position, hoping that Maxey’s absence doesn’t extend beyond the announced back-to-back.
