Ty Jerome joins Memphis for $28M over three years

After shining with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Ty Jerome is changing scenery and joining the Memphis Grizzlies. The 27-year-old combo guard has signed a three-year contract worth $28 million, according to ESPN, becoming a key addition for the Tennessee franchise.

An elite shooter to offset Desmond Bane’s departure
Jerome arrives in Memphis with impressive offensive credentials. Last season, he posted a remarkable 43.9% success rate from 3-point range, his career-best, while finishing third in the Sixth Man of the Year voting. This long-range accuracy will be valuable for the Grizzlies, who need to compensate for Desmond Bane‘s departure to Orlando.
The former 24th pick of the 2019 NBA Draft has the ideal profile to thrive in the uptempo system advocated by coach Tuomas Iisalo. Capable of creating for himself and his teammates, Jerome should perfectly fit into Memphis’s fast-paced game and provide additional spacing for Ja Morant to exploit driving lanes.
His departure from Cleveland seemed inevitable after the Cavaliers acquired Lonzo Ball and extended Sam Merrill. The reigning Eastern Conference champions no longer had the salary cap flexibility to retain their valuable sixth man.
Memphis commits to continuity with its core players
This signing is part of a broader strengthening strategy for the Grizzlies. The franchise has also confirmed extensions for its two pillars: Jaren Jackson Jr. signed a maximum extension of $240 million over five years with a player option for the final year, while Santi Aldama committed to $52.5 million over three years.
At 25, Jackson Jr. has become equal to Ja Morant in the team hierarchy. The 2023 DPOY and two-time All-Star brings a defensive dimension that Jerome cannot fill, with Memphis maintaining the sixth-worst defense in the league last season. Nevertheless, the New York native’s arrival represents a strong offensive addition for an ambitious team that’s providing itself with the means to achieve its future goals.
