Salary increase following a convincing season
This extension represents a 120% increase from the veteran minimum contract signed last summer. Gary Trent Jr. had joined Milwaukee quietly, but his performances quickly convinced management to invest in him for the future.
During the 2024-2025 season, the Minneapolis native averaged 11.1 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1 steal in less than 26 minutes per game. His 41.6% three-point shooting, his second-best career percentage, made him a valuable asset in Milwaukee’s rotation.
Negotiations were conducted with Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul and agent Lucas Newton. This signing confirms the Bucks’ continuity strategy, who also extended Kevin Porter Jr. and Taurean Prince during this offseason.
Memorable playoffs that sealed his future
It was especially during the playoffs that Gary Trent Jr. made his mark. Against the Indiana Pacers in the first round, he emerged as Giannis Antetokounmpo’s lieutenant with two exceptional performances. He first exploded for 37 points in Game 3, the Bucks’ only win in the series, then followed up with 33 points in a Game 5 loss in overtime.
Despite some weaknesses in crucial moments, his overall production convinced Milwaukee to trust him. « Stats don’t match market value. You can put up certain numbers or have an average, but it doesn’t matter if the market doesn’t value it, » he had told the Journal Sentinel last season.
With this new contract, Gary Trent Jr. finally gets the financial recognition for his performances. For Milwaukee, it’s a winning bet: retaining a quality role player capable of catching fire from three-point range at any moment.
