Player Profile

When Duop Reath stepped onto the court at the Moda Center for his NBA debut on November 12, 2023, scoring 11 points against the Lakers, few could have imagined the journey that brought him there from the football fields of Perth. This 27-year-old power forward embodies one of the most remarkable stories in contemporary basketball.

Having arrived in Australia at age nine after leaving South Sudan, Reath initially dreamed of a professional football career. But a growth spurt during his teenage years changed everything, steering him toward the basketball court instead. This late conversion shaped an unconventional player, gifted with rare versatility for his size and a three-point shooting ability that catches defenses off guard.

His college career, spanning Lee College in Texas and LSU in Louisiana, did not lead to a spot in the 2018 NBA Draft, but Reath refused to give up. What followed was a professional odyssey that took him to Belgrade with FMP and then Red Star, to China with the Qingdao Eagles, and through stints in Australia and Lebanon. Each stop enriched his game and strengthened his character.

With the Australian Boomers, Reath reached the pinnacle of international basketball at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, contributing to the team's historic bronze medal. That collective achievement validated years of hard work and confirmed his place at the highest level.

Now established in Portland, Reath continues to write a story that goes beyond sport alone — that of a man who turned every obstacle into a stepping stone toward excellence.
