Atlanta Trades Vit Krejci to Portland for Duop Reath plus two Second Round Draft Picks

The Atlanta Hawks officially announced Sunday the trade of Vit Krejci to the Portland Trail Blazers, in exchange for Duop Reath and two second-round draft picks. A move that fits into both franchises’ strategies just days before the February 5 trade deadline.
Portland acquires an elite 6’8″ shooter who is having his best career season with 9 points per game and an impressive 42.3% from 3-point range, ranking him in the top 20 in the NBA. The 25-year-old Czech excels particularly in catch-and-shoot situations with 44.6% accuracy, ranking 16th out of 179 players in the league this season.
A Mutually Beneficial Trade
The Trail Blazers, currently tenth in the Western Conference, are looking to secure their spot in the play-in tournament and qualify for their first playoffs since 2021. Krejci’s arrival provides the offensive spacing needed for a team that has the lowest 3-point percentage in the league (33.4%).
The Czech player’s contract is particularly advantageous: $2.3 million this season with a non-guaranteed $2.7 million option for next season. He becomes eligible for an extension this summer, which could interest Portland for the future.

On Atlanta’s side, this trade allows them to recover valuable assets. The Hawks receive their own 2027 second-round pick (which belonged to Portland) as well as the New York Knicks’ 2030 pick. With seven second-round picks now at their disposal, the franchise gives itself the means for potential future trades.
A Golden Opportunity for Zaccharie Risacher
This transaction represents excellent news for Zaccharie Risacher. The French rookie should see his playing time increase significantly, as Krejci was one of his main direct competitors at the position. Quin Snyder had been splitting his rotation between the two players, giving Risacher 24 minutes compared to Krejci’s 22.
As for Duop Reath, the 29-year-old center just underwent foot surgery that ended his season. The Hawks could release him to create a roster spot, especially since he will become a restricted free agent this summer. This trade confirms Atlanta’s strategy of taking a step back this season while accumulating draft picks for the future.
