Norman Powell joins Miami in three-team NBA trade

The Los Angeles Clippers have officially announced the departure of Norman Powell to Miami as part of a three-team trade also involving the Utah Jazz. The 32-year-old Canadian guard, who was coming off his best statistical season with 21.8 points per game, will bring his offensive punch to the Heat.
John Collins bolsters Clippers’ offense
In exchange for Powell’s departure, the Clippers receive John Collins from the Jazz. The 27-year-old big man, who averaged 19 points and 8.2 rebounds per game last season with 52.7% shooting, will provide a new lob target for James Harden. Collins, who can become a free agent next summer, will earn $26.6 million next season.

For Miami, Powell’s arrival fills an obvious offensive void. The Heat, who had only the 21st-ranked offense in the NBA last season, is betting on the explosiveness of the former Raptors player. Powell, who will earn $20.5 million in 2025-2026, can sign a three-year extension worth $80.6 million according to ESPN, but the Clippers were reluctant to offer him a long-term contract to preserve their salary cap flexibility in 2027.
Kevin Love philosophical about his trade to Utah
The Jazz receive Kyle Anderson, Kevin Love and a 2027 second-round pick from the Clippers in this transaction. Love, 36, reacted philosophically to his trade on social media: « I never thought I’d become a math problem. Welcome to the NBA. »
The five-time All-Star, who played only 23 games last season in Miami averaging 5.3 points and 4.1 rebounds, might not stay long in Salt Lake City. Observers consider him a likely buyout candidate, as Utah focuses on rebuilding. Anderson, 32, joins his sixth NBA team with a two-year contract worth $9.2 million and $9.7 million.
This trade allows the Clippers to continue diversifying their offensive options, the Heat to add a proven scorer, and the Jazz to move on from a player they no longer counted on while reducing their salary cap.
