The Indiana Pacers officially confirmed Monday that their star point guard Tyrese Haliburton will miss the entire 2025-2026 season. This extended absence follows surgery to repair a ruptured right Achilles tendon, an injury that occurred during Game 7 of the NBA Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

An injury that came at the worst time for Indiana

Haliburton’s injury occurred in the first quarter of the Pacers‘ 103-91 loss to the Thunder in Game 7 of the 2025 NBA Finals. Before leaving the court, the 25-year-old had scored nine points with three 3-pointers. His absence heavily impacted the game, with Oklahoma City dominating the second period 56-43 to claim the franchise’s first title.

During these NBA Finals, Haliburton averaged 14 points, 5.9 assists, and 4.6 rebounds per game. These statistics reflect the two-time All-Star’s importance in the Pacers’ system.

Kevin Pritchard remains optimistic despite the serious situation

Pacers president Kevin Pritchard was transparent about his star player’s health status during an appearance on WISH-TV. « I have no doubt he’ll come back better than ever, » Pritchard stated. « The surgery went well. However, he won’t play next year. We wouldn’t take that risk now. »

This cautious decision follows a long-term preservation logic. Haliburton, who had an outstanding regular season averaging 18.6 points, 9.2 assists, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.4 steals in 73 games, deserves a complete recovery. His performance had earned him a selection to the All-NBA Third Team.

With career averages of 17.5 points, 8.8 assists, and 3.7 rebounds in 333 games between Sacramento and Indiana, Haliburton represents a fundamental pillar for the Pacers’ future. His return in 2026-2027 will be closely monitored by the entire Indiana franchise.
