The first steps of Noah Penda and Jase Richardson with the Orlando Magic are unfolding under the best conditions. The two rookies are using training camp to discover the intensity of the NBA and are already impressing their new teammates with their professional approach.

« Every day, I learn something different from a new guy, » appreciates Jase Richardson. « On the first day, I took a shoulder hit from Desmond Bane. It’s impossible to prepare for that. The NBA is a very physical league so I’m going to get stronger and keep improving. »

Quick Adaptation to Jamahl Mosley’s Requirements

To prepare for their NBA debuts, which will officially take place on October 22 against the Heat, both rookies are trying to use training camp and preseason games to create a spot in Jamahl Mosley’s rotation. The Orlando coach is counting on them to bring lots of energy on the court.

Noah Penda has perfectly understood this expectation: « I feel comfortable when I bring energy on the court. It helps me feel involved with the team and it’s a good way to earn others’ respect. I make sure to be where my teammates want me to be. Being in the right place at the right time is the most important thing on the court, it depends on my positioning, but also a lot on communication. »

This mentality is already winning over the team veterans. Paolo Banchero has nothing but praise for the former Le Mans player: « I really like Noah [Penda]. He’s someone who doesn’t talk much, but on the court, it’s the opposite. He’s very dynamic, he plays really hard and he has a great feel for the game on offense. He knows when to make passes or when to play team basketball, I really like what I’m seeing. »

Wendell Carter Jr. adds about Jase Richardson: « What I like most about him is that he immediately showed what he could bring to this team. He’s a fantastic player and a great student. When he’s wrong, he asks for advice. When he’s right, he talks about what he knows how to do. I really appreciate his competitiveness. »

The two Magic rookies seem to be on the right track to quickly establish themselves in Orlando’s rotation, thanks to their exemplary attitude and ability to adapt to the demands of the highest level. Starting this Saturday, we should see both first-year players in action during the first preseason game against Miami (Sunday at 2 AM French time).
