According to ESPN, the Golden State Warriors have involved Draymond Green in active trade conversations ahead of Thursday’s deadline, putting his 14 seasons with the franchise in jeopardy. General manager Mike Dunleavy and owner Joe Lacob maintain their motivation to complete a trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Green’s name is part of the framework of offers available to the Milwaukee Bucks.

A Necessary Trade to Balance Salaries

To match salaries, the Warriors must include either Jimmy Butler ($56.8 million next season) or Green ($27.6 million next season) in the deal. Green has a smaller and easier-to-redirect contract, and he is currently healthy and able to contribute to a contending team, unlike the injured Butler.

Coach Steve Kerr confirmed that he spoke to Green on Monday about his uncertain future as trade rumors circulate. « It’s probably the first time, I’d say, since I’ve been here that his name has really been mentioned in trade discussions, » Kerr said Tuesday during his pregame press conference.

Green Calmly Accepts the Situation

After the 113-94 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday night, Green acknowledged the possibility that it could be his last game with the Warriors. « I think a lot of people want to know how I feel, » Green said. « Like, am I upset? Not at all. If [trading me] is what’s best for this organization, that’s what’s best for this organization. »

Green revealed that his conversation with Kerr made him realize that the possibility of a trade was real, and that he even informed his son on the way to Tuesday’s game. « I’ve been here 13 and a half years, » Green added. « That’s longer than probably 98% of NBA players have been in the same place. A guy from Saginaw, Michigan. I don’t know if it ends at 13 and a half years, but if it does, what a damn run it’s been. »
