Good news keeps coming for Basket Landes. After securing their historic qualification to the Final Six for the first time in club history, their young point guard and top scorer Leila Lacan (1.80m, 21 years old) has been named MVP of the month of January in EuroLeague. The cherry on top of an extremely rich cake for the French international.
Record-breaking scoring performance
Already impressive at the start of the campaign, Leila Lacan simply delivered one enormous European performance after another during January. The player who averages 13 points in EuroLeague this season posted 20.7 points, 2.3 assists and 2 steals per game over three January matches, with an efficiency rating of 19.3. She was notably the main reason behind Fenerbahçe‘s first defeat of the season, setting her personal record against the Turkish side. In a spectacular evening, Lacan scored 28 points on 10/15 shooting.
Her activity didn’t slow down afterward with 13 points in as many minutes against DVTK, before that climactic finish in a thrilling encounter against Valencia on January 28th. The remarkable Landes squad eventually won 72-76 in Spain despite trailing by eight points with three minutes remaining. Her lockdown defense (3 steals) weighed heavily in the final decision, after she had already scored 21 points in the contest.
