Player Profile

At three years old, Anthony Black was already fluent in German after following his professional basketball-playing father to Germany at just ten months of age. This early linguistic ability was only a preview of the versatility that would define his athletic career.

Back in Texas, the Duncanville native quickly established himself as an exceptional athlete in two sports. On the football field, he excelled as a wide receiver with impressive statistics. On the basketball court, his court vision and basketball IQ were outstanding at the point guard position. This dual talent earned him athletic scholarships in both sports, a rare situation that speaks to his extraordinary athletic abilities.

Raised primarily by his mother after his parents separated, Black developed a determined character that helped him overcome obstacles. His final year at Duncanville High School was marked by eligibility issues that limited his playing time, but did not diminish his standing among recruiters, who ranked him among the top five prospects in the country.

His decision to join the University of Arkansas proved to be the right one. An immediate starter at the guard position, he confirmed his NBA potential through his versatility and playmaking abilities. At the same time, he shone wearing the Team USA U-18 jersey, contributing to the gold medal at the 2022 FIBA Americas Championship.

Selected sixth overall by the Orlando Magic in the 2023 draft, Black became the highest draft pick in Razorbacks history. His unique journey, from Germany to the NBA hardwood by way of the football field, shaped a one-of-a-kind profile in the league.
