The NBA unveiled its full 2026-2027 regular-season schedule on August 13, 2026. The campaign runs from October 20, 2026, through April 11, 2027, with all 30 teams playing 82 games apiece.
Celtics and Pistons open the tripleheader
The season tips off Tuesday, October 20, with a tripleheader on NBC/Peacock. The Boston Celtics visit the Detroit Pistons at 3 p.m. ET to get things started. The matchup carries some extra intrigue for Detroit, which finished the 2025-2026 season as the Eastern Conference’s top seed behind Cade Cunningham, who finished fifth in MVP voting. Despite that regular-season success, the Pistons let a 2-0 playoff series lead slip away and were eliminated.

LeBron James debuts as a 76er at Madison Square Garden
Philadelphia then travels to Madison Square Garden to face the New York Knicks at 7 p.m. ET, on the night New York receives its championship rings. That game also marks LeBron James’s 24th NBA season opener and his first official appearance in a 76ers uniform after he joined Philadelphia in free agency following months of speculation. James signed a two-year, $8 million contract with a player option, a steep pay cut from the nearly $53 million he earned with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2025-2026, and he described the move as the last chapter of his career.

Thunder-Spurs closes the night
The nightcap pits the Oklahoma City Thunder against the San Antonio Spurs at 9:30 p.m. ET, continuing a rivalry that produced 12 meetings last season across the regular season, the NBA Cup and the playoffs — with San Antonio winning eight of them, including a Game 7 conference finals win at home after Oklahoma City had led the series 3-2. Defensive Player of the Year Victor Wembanyama figures to bring extra intensity to that opener, according to ESPN.

Giannis Antetokounmpo returns to Milwaukee

Jaylen Brown, dealt from the Boston Celtics to Philadelphia in a trade finalized July 1, 2026, was sent to the 76ers in exchange for Paul George, two first-round picks and two second-round picks. LeBron’s return trail runs through Cleveland
James’s own return trail runs through Cleveland first: his home opener as a 76er comes against the Cavaliers on October 22 (7 p.m. ET, ESPN), with a second meeting on November 6 (7:30 p.m. ET, Prime). During his free agency, James had granted just one in-person meeting to Cavaliers leadership and front-office staff, in early July, but he ultimately chose not to pursue a third stint in Cleveland.
James faces Miami twice this season
He also faces Miami on January 8 in Philadelphia before a return trip to Miami on January 30. James had been floated as a possible fit for a return to Miami during his free agency but chose Philadelphia instead.
James faces Curry and the Warriors
His matchup with Stephen Curry and the Warriors, one of only two possible meetings each season since James moved to the Eastern Conference, is set for March 24. Including playoffs, Curry leads that head-to-head 30-25 across 55 career meetings.
NBA Cup and All-Star Game round out the calendar
Elsewhere, the fourth Emirates NBA Cup runs from October 30 group play through a December 11 championship at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, and the 2027 All-Star Game is set for February 21 in Phoenix.
