Victor Wembanyama continues to fascinate the NBA. According to the latest ESPN poll of twenty NBA executives and coaches, the French prodigy is expected to be the world’s best player by 2030. This landslide vote confirms the immense potential of the former Metropolitans star.
Predicted Dominance Despite Physical Challenges
The poll reveals Wembanyama’s overwhelming dominance, receiving 16 of 20 jury votes. Far behind, Luka Doncic gets only 2 votes, while Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jayson Tatum share the remaining two. This projection is based on the ideal MVP candidate age, historically averaging 26.5 years over the past 25 years.
Heralded as the NBA’s future since his league debut, the 2023 Draft’s 1st pick has already made his mark. Named Rookie of the Year in 2024 before earning his first All-Star selection, Wembanyama has frightening room for improvement. Still developing his long-range shooting (33.9% career) and post-up game, the French giant has potential to become the best 2-Way player in history.
However, a major challenge remains: physical management. The Chesnay native has only played 117 of 164 Spurs games since joining the NBA, notably due to venous thrombosis that sidelined him during the 2025 All-Star Break. This physical fragility remains the main obstacle to his predicted dominance.

A Promising Future for the Spurs
Wembanyama’s rise seems inevitable according to observers. His third NBA season is particularly anticipated, as it could mark his emergence as an All-NBA caliber player. Unlike 2024 with the Olympics, Victor had a peaceful summer preparation, without major international commitments.
In other ESPN poll categories, international players also dominate the top spots for 2025-2026 MVP. Nikola Jokic leads with 7 votes, followed by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (5) and Luka Doncic (4). Wembanyama already appears on this list with 2 votes, alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo and Anthony Edwards. Another sign that the NBA’s future might not wait until 2030 to belong to the French phenomenon.
