Chemnitz 94 – 93 Hagen: Krutwig's 39-PIR masterpiece wasted

The game of the weekend, and arguably the game of the young season. Phoenix Hagen walked into Chemnitz and very nearly walked out with a scalp, thanks to a genuinely absurd performance from Cameron Krutwig, who posted 27 points on 12-of-15 shooting with 8 rebounds and 6 assists in just 28 minutes — a 39 PIR, the highest individual mark of the entire matchday. He was efficient, unbothered, and essentially unguardable in the paint. Hagen had four other double-digit scorers behind him: Trenton Gibson (17), Tyler Polley (14 on 6-of-8), and Bjarne Kraushaar, who orchestrated with 13 points and 8 assists.

But the NINERS had the deeper backcourt on the night. Stefan Smith carried the load with 23 points, 7-of-8 from the line across 38 minutes, while Phlandrous Fleming Jr. was the most impactful two-way presence on the floor — 21 points on 9-of-13 with 6 assists, 2 steals and a team-best +7. Cobe Williams provided the shooting punch off the perimeter (16 points, 4-of-5 from three), and Nighael Ceaser did the dirty work with 10 points and 9 boards. One possession decided it. Chemnitz survives; Hagen is left staring at a box score that says they deserved better.

Oldenburg 75 – 74 Hamburg: a grinder decided at the stripe

If Chemnitz–Hagen was a shootout, this was the opposite — an ugly, beautiful defensive slog where every possession felt like it cost something. Nicholas Tischler was the difference-maker for the EWE Baskets, scoring 21 points in 36 minutes, including a flawless 6-of-6 from the free-throw line and 3 triples. Crucially, he didn't flinch late. Alongside him, Zachary Ensminger was the connective tissue of the Oldenburg offense: 15 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, 3-of-5 from deep, and the game's best efficiency rating at 17 PIR.

Hamburg's loss stings because their production was so evenly distributed — and so nearly enough. Zakai Zeigler was relentless attacking the rim, drawing 8 free throws and converting 7 of them for 14 points with 6 assists and 2 steals. Martin Breunig added 13, Kenneth Ogbe chipped in 12 with 3 steals, and David Münkat hit two triples for 10. Four players in double figures, and still one point short. The Towers now have a loss in a game they controlled for long stretches — and after winning a similarly tight 94–90 battle against Chemnitz two days earlier, they'll know exactly how thin these margins are.

Bamberg 96 – 103 Ludwigsburg: the weekend's offensive explosion

The highest-scoring game of the matchday, and a genuine track meet. MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg put up 103 on the road behind a four-man wrecking crew: Justin Kier (21 points, 5 assists), Ishmael Leggett (21 points, 3-of-4 from three), Darius Perry (18 points and a game-high 9 assists for a 22 PIR), and Elijah Hughes, who bombed 4-of-8 from deep for 16. That's balanced, high-volume, hard-to-plan-for offense.

Bamberg were far from passive — Jordan Wright was excellent with 22 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists, supported by Trevon Scott (14 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 18 PIR) and Joshua Obiesie (14). The problem was on the other end: 103 conceded at home. Particularly frustrating given Bamberg had just dismantled RASTA Vechta 108–67 two days prior — a 41-point demolition that suggested a team finding its rhythm. Ludwigsburg, meanwhile, backed up a narrow 81–78 win over Rostock with this, and look like a side with real staying power.

Around the league

Würzburg 90 – 67 at Ulm was the weekend's most surprising result. Ulm were flattened on their own floor, held to 67 points, with Calvin Wishart (18 points, 3 triples) and Edward Colbert III (14 points, 11 rebounds, 22 PIR) doing the damage. Sharp reversal — Ulm had beaten Ludwigsburg 86–77 on opening night and won 93–78 at Hagen.

Braunschweig 83 – 82 Rostock was the third one-point thriller. Devin Askew was clutch personified: 20 points, 10-of-10 from the free-throw line, plus 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Dejour Reaves (15 points on 7-of-9) and Ferdinand Zylka (13 and 8) supported. Rostock got 18 from T.J. Crockett Jr., 16 from Artur Konontsuk and 14 with 8 boards from Robin Amaize — and lost anyway.

Trier 98 – 85 Jena saw the Gladiators keep their offense humming, with Eli Brooks (21 points, 7 assists, 23 PIR), Jordan Roland (20, 4 triples) and Marco Hollersbacher (14). Jena's Terrence Edwards Jr. was the best individual scorer on the floor with 25 points and 8 assists, but got too little help. Trier had earlier crushed Bonn 106–80.

Bonn 77 – 74 MBC was another nervy finish. Jeffery Garrett Jr. posted 19 and 8 for the Telekom Baskets, while MBC's Delonnie Hunt led all scorers with 23 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists on heavy volume (3-of-10 from three). Bonn get back on track after the Trier hammering.

Frankfurt 93 – 81 Vechta gave the Skyliners a solid home win, Isaiah Swope leading with 21, Race Thompson posting 18 and 10, and Till Pape adding 15. Vechta's Tibor Pleiss was outstanding in defeat — 21 points, 16 rebounds and a 32 PIR, the second-best efficiency mark of the weekend.

Bayern Munich 95 – 61 ALBA Berlin was the most lopsided version of the German Classic in recent memory. Bayern needed nobody to go big: Oscar da Silva (14 on a perfect 5-of-5), Kamar Baldwin (14 in 18 minutes), Austin Wiley (13 and 10 in just 13 minutes), Duane Washington (12) and MarJon Beauchamp (12) all contributed in short bursts. ALBA managed only 61, with Jack Kayil (14) and Justin Bean (13) the lone bright spots. Bayern had already opened with a 108–72 dismantling of Bamberg — they look ominous.
