This is an unexpected departure: Téa Cléante (5’9″, 19) leaves ASVEL Féminin to join Penn State in NCAA. After just one season in Lyon and despite a contract running until 2027, the U18 international point guard has decided to cross the Atlantic. The information, already revealed by Penn State local press last week, was confirmed this Tuesday by Le Progrès.

Potential mainly shown in EuroCup

After coming through Pôle France, Téa Cléante joined ASVEL Féminin in summer 2024. In her first professional season, she played 21 games in La Boulangère Wonderligue (averaging 4.1 points, 0.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists) and stood out during playoffs (5.5 points and 2 assists for 6 efficiency rating). In EuroCup, she shined with averages of 7.7 points and 2 assists in 11 games.

Penn State, new step before WNBA Draft?

Under contract with Lyon until 2027, the 19-year-old point guard chose to join Penn State. Le Progrès specifies that a significant transfer fee was paid to complete the deal. Hoping to enter the WNBA Draft in the future, Cléante sees this move as an opportunity to accelerate her development against some of the best American college players.

ASVEL Féminin team under reconstruction

This departure is part of a busy summer for ASVEL Féminin, whose 2025-2026 roster is 80% renewed. Only Dayshanette Harris and Aïnhoa Risacher, who signed her first pro contract, remain from last season. To compensate, the club has recruited notably Sara Scalia (announced Monday), Scott-Grayson, Latvian Aleksa Gulbe, Franco-Malian Diana Balayera, Emma Peytour, Awa Trasi and Jess-Mine Zodia, as well as Lana Bentoumi from the youth academy. The decision not to compete in EuroCup for economic reasons was likely seen as bad news for young players who often had significant roles in this competition.
