Jakob Poeltl and the Toronto Raptors have agreed to a contract extension worth $104 million over four years, according to ESPN. The 7-foot Austrian center will now be tied to the Canadian franchise through the 2029-2030 season, marking a strong commitment from both sides.

In the details of this agreement, Poeltl first chose to activate his player option of $19.5 million for the 2026-2027 season, before adding three new years to his contract. The 29-year-old will earn $19.5 million starting in the 2025-2026 season, then an average of $26 million per year between 2026 and 2030.
An underrated center confirming his progress
This extension comes after an exceptional season for Poeltl, who set career highs with 29.6 minutes played per game, 14.5 points and 9.6 rebounds on average. These remarkable performances make him one of only three NBA players to maintain over 60% shooting efficiency over the last eight seasons, alongside Rudy Gobert and DeAndre Jordan.
Drafted by Toronto with the 9th pick in 2016, Poeltl left the Raptors after two seasons to join San Antonio as part of the Kawhi Leonard trade. After four solid seasons in Texas, he returned to the Great North during the 2022-2023 season.
This extension is part of the Raptors’ rebuilding strategy, who can now rely on a major quartet composed of Jakob Poeltl, Scottie Barnes, Brandon Ingram and Immanuel Quickley, all tied to the franchise until at least 2028. This new contract, the largest of the Austrian’s career, confirms his status as a defensive pillar and his ability to consistently produce double-doubles in the NBA.
