The Charlotte Hornets have officially announced Tre Mann’s extension for three additional years, according to Shams Charania of ESPN. The 24-year-old American point guard has committed for a total of $24 million, confirming the front office’s confidence in his abilities.

A bet on the future despite a shortened season
Arriving in Charlotte in February 2024 as part of a trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Mann had shown encouraging signs at the start of the 2024-2025 season. In 13 games played, he averaged 14.1 points, 3.0 assists, and 2.9 rebounds per game, with an impressive 40% success rate from 3-point range coming off the bench.
This promising performance had even put him in contention for the Sixth Man of the Year award before a back injury abruptly ended his season in November. Drafted 18th overall by the Thunder in 2021 after his time at the University of Florida, Mann had spent two and a half seasons in Oklahoma City before the trade.
According to Charania, the point guard has fully recovered from his injury and has participated in all of the Hornets‘ preseason activities, including five-on-five games. This complete recovery has apparently reassured Jeff Peterson, the president of basketball operations, who had expressed satisfaction with the player’s progress.
A strengthened rotation to support LaMelo Ball
This extension is part of Charlotte’s strategy to strengthen its backcourt, following the recent acquisition of Collin Sexton. Mann is expected to play an important rotation role behind LaMelo Ball, especially since the latter has experienced several physical setbacks in recent seasons.
Mann’s contract, at a reasonable amount, represents a calculated bet for the Hornets. If the point guard returns to his early-season form from last year, this signing could prove to be an excellent move for the North Carolina organization. His explosive playing style and ability to create his own shot will bring an additional offensive dimension to Charlotte’s bench.
