Hugo Benitez (1.92 m, 24 years old) got off to a strong start to his season with Manresa: this Sunday, September 21, the French international won the Lliga Catalana after an (83-79) victory against Ricky Rubio’s Joventut Badalone, being named MVP of the final.

A decisive Benitez in crunch time

Manresa secured their fourth Lliga Catalana, but they had to hold off Joventut’s attacks until the very end. Led by a solid collective effort, Diego Ocampo’s men took the lead from the first quarter (26-19), maintaining a slight advantage at halftime (40-35).

Coming back from the locker room, Badalone tied the score twice, but a 14-3 run by the Catalans gave Manresa breathing room (65-56, 30th minute). Despite a final push by Kyle Hunt and Ricky Rubio’s teammates in the final two minutes, the home team held on, with Dani Pérez sealing the victory from the free-throw line.
