The Minnesota Timberwolves pulled off the night’s highlight Wednesday by overturning the Houston Rockets 110-108 in overtime, completing a historic comeback. Trailing by 13 points in overtime, the Wolves went on an incredible 15-0 run to secure victory in crunch time.

Julius Randle heroes a spectacular finish

Julius Randle scored the game-winning basket with 8.8 seconds left in overtime, capping off a remarkable performance with 24 points scored entirely in the second half. This 13-point overtime comeback is the largest since detailed statistics began in 1997.

The game’s storyline was particularly thrilling. After leading by 11 points with 3 and a half minutes remaining in regulation, Minnesota watched Houston come back with a 12-0 run orchestrated by Kevin Durant and Alperen Sengun. The two Rockets stars each finished with 30 points, allowing their team to take the lead.

In overtime, Houston started perfectly with 13 consecutive points, appearing headed for victory. But the Timberwolves found the resources to respond with a decisive 15-0 run, despite a roster depleted by injuries and fouls.

Minnesota stays in playoff race despite absences

This victory allows the Timberwolves (45-28) to remain half a game behind Denver, fourth in the Western Conference. A particularly valuable win as the team played without several starters: Anthony Edwardss absent, Jaden McDaniels leaving with injury after scoring 25 points, Naz Reid ejected and Rudy Gobert fouling out.

Rudy Gobert had nevertheless delivered a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds and added 5 blocks, while Reid had also accumulated 14 points and 13 rebounds before his ejection. This tenth win in fifteen games without Edwards demonstrates the Wolves’ roster depth.

The Rockets (43-29), sixth in the West, see their streak of 23 consecutive successful free throws end on Durant’s missed attempts in the final seconds. Houston will host Minnesota again on April 10, in a game that could prove decisive for the playoffs.
