End of season for Nukiya Mayo, major blow for Charnay
Nukiya Mayo will not set foot on the court again this season. Injured on January 7th during Charnay’s victory against Chartres, the American guard received the medical verdict a few days later: she suffered a torn ACL in her right knee. A serious injury that ends her 2025-2026 season in LBWL.
An injury that spoils a good performance
It was during Charnay’s win against Chartres (101-92) that everything changed. After just 14 minutes on the court, Nukiya Mayo (6’1″, 27 years old) had to leave her teammates, while she was having a convincing start to the game with 9 points, 1 assist and 2 steals.
On January 15th, the diagnosis came: a torn ACL. The New York player’s season is officially over, and her return can only happen next season.
A sporting blow for Charnay
This injury comes at a difficult time for Charnay Basket Bourgogne Sud. Stéphane Leite’s players are coming off a loss against Basket Landes (76-84), the current league leader, suffered on January 10th.
Without a key player in their rotation, Charnay will have to quickly reorganize to stay in touch with the best teams in La Boulangère Wonderligue.
A successful discovery of French top-level basketball
Arriving this season in LBWL, Nukiya Mayo was discovering the elite of French women’s basketball. Previously, the player had played for Aulnoye, Montbrison and La Tronche de Meylan in LF2, before joining the Burgundy project.
In 13 games played, she posted solid and well-rounded statistics: 8.6 points, 5 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.3 blocks in 24 minutes per game. Fourth leading scorer on the team, third in rebounds and steals, she was also the team’s best shot-blocker.
Valuable versatility on both ends of the floor, which made her an important piece of the Charnay roster.

A standout game against Chartres
Among her best performances of the season, Nukiya Mayo stood out on October 4th, also against Chartres. That night, she compiled 20 points and 9 rebounds, setting her season highs, in a convincing victory (89-74).
Encouraging performances for a player who was discovering the highest national level and who had quickly adapted to the demands of LBWL.
Charnay still in the race for top 3
Despite this major absence, Charnay remains solidly positioned in the standings. The Burgundy team currently occupies sixth place with a record of 8 wins and 6 losses, tied with Landerneau Bretagne Basket (4th) and Flammes Carolo (5th).
To compensate for the loss of Nukiya Mayo, Shakalaya Thomas (16.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists), Sara Chevaugeon (11.9 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists) and Mariama Daramy (11.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists) will have to elevate their game to allow Charnay to remain ambitious.
A key matchup ahead
Next test comes on January 24th with the home game against Flammes Carolo. A match not to be lost for Charnay, in order to stay in touch with the top 3 and continue a season that must now be written without Nukiya Mayo.
