Player Profile
Few players can boast of scoring 50 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in a junior college game while leading an entire conference in scoring, but MarJon Beauchamp is no ordinary player. The American forward carved out an atypical path to the NBA, moving between several Seattle high schools—Nathan Hale, Garfield, and Rainier Beach—before finishing in Arizona and then returning to his roots in Yakima.
At Yakima Valley College, Beauchamp put up outstanding numbers, averaging 30.7 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists over 12 games while dominating the Northwest Athletic Conference in scoring. However, his journey took an unexpected turn when he turned down Division I opportunities due to concerns about his amateur status, opting instead for Chameleon BX and then the NBA G League Ignite.
This unconventional path reflects the resilience of a player who has overcome numerous challenges: constant relocations for basketball, illness caused by mold exposure during his teenage years, and training disruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. These hardships forged a character that shines through in his game today, particularly in his defensive versatility and steady improvement from long range.
Recently on a two-way contract with the New York Knicks and the Westchester Knicks in the G League, Beauchamp continues to refine his considerable potential. His ability to adapt and improve in the face of adversity suggests he has not yet finished surprising people at the NBA level.
