Health issues continue for Caitlin Clark. The star point guard of the Indiana Fever has been forced to withdraw from the WNBA All-Star Weekend after suffering a groin injury during the game against the Connecticut Sun last Tuesday.

An injury that deprives WNBA of its biggest star

The incident occurred in the last minute of play. While grabbing a defensive rebound and delivering an assist to Kelsey Mitchell, Clark felt discomfort in her groin and had to be replaced by Sydney Colson. « She felt discomfort in her groin, she’ll be examined and we’ll see what comes out of it, » her coach Stephanie White reacted after the game.

This new injury comes at a particularly bad time for the 23-year-old player, who had already missed nine games this season due to a quad issue and a previous groin injury. Since returning from injury against the Las Vegas Aces, Clark has struggled to find her usual rhythm, averaging only 12.5 points on 30% shooting and 23% from 3-point range in her last four games.

Missing a home All-Star Game

Clark’s withdrawal represents a significant blow for the WNBA and its ratings, especially since the event is taking place in Indianapolis, her home city. The Fever star was team captain for the All-Star Game and was also scheduled to participate in the 3-point contest organized the day before.

« I’m thrilled that Indianapolis is hosting the WNBA All-Star this weekend, » Clark explained in a message posted on social media. « I’m extremely sad and disappointed that I won’t be able to participate in the 3-point contest or the All-Star Game. I need to rest. I’ll still be at Gainbridge Fieldhouse for the entire event and I can’t wait to help Sandy lead our team to victory. »

Despite her recent shooting struggles, Clark remains confident: « I’m not making as many shots as expected, but I think it’s starting to come back. But I think I’m still managing to create plays for my teammates, » she had stated after the victory against the Dallas Wings.
