The Golden State Warriors are bringing Draymond Green back. The four-time NBA champion has agreed to a new one-year deal worth $27.7 million, as confirmed by Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul and ESPN‘s Shams Charania. The agreement puts to rest one of the more intriguing storylines of the summer, after Green declined his $27.6 million player option earlier in the offseason.

By opting out, Green gave the Warriors financial flexibility to maneuver in free agency. Golden State used that room to pursue LeBron James, but the future Hall of Famer ultimately chose to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers. With that door closed, the Warriors turned their attention back to retaining their longtime cornerstone.

A Turbulent Offseason Behind Him

The road to this new deal was anything but smooth for Green. At the February trade deadline, he found himself at the center of serious discussions involving a potential swap for Giannis Antetokounmpo with the Milwaukee Bucks. The Warriors ultimately stepped back from those talks, and chose not to revisit them this summer either.

Green opened up about the experience in March, speaking to ESPN with characteristic candor: « I’m a human being. There was a second of me [at the deadline] that felt like, ‘Damn, they really going to do that to me?’ [But] I understand this business probably [as] good as any player. Like, yo, this is Giannis Antetokounmpo. They not just about to trade me for a bag of peanuts. »

One notable detail in the new contract: there is no no-trade clause. Given what happened at the deadline, that absence carries real significance heading into the 2025-2026 season.

A Legacy Firmly Intact in Golden State

Despite the turbulence, Green’s commitment to the Warriors organization remains clear. He has even expressed openness to coming off the bench if head coach Steve Kerr determines that is the best fit for the team — a sign of maturity and team-first thinking from a veteran entering his 14th season in Golden State.

Last season, Green appeared in 68 games, averaging 27.5 minutes per contest. His longevity with the franchise now places him second on the list of longest active streaks with one team in the NBA, trailing only teammate Stephen Curry, who has spent 18 seasons as a Warrior.

With Green officially back in the fold, the Warriors can move forward with a clearer picture of their roster heading into next season — built, once again, around one of the most influential players in franchise history.
