BCL 2026-27 Group H: Joventut Badalone, Bnei Penlink Herzliya, FC Porto and Telekom Baskets Bonn — full breakdown and predictions

Group H of the 2026-27 Basketball Champions League brings together Spanish Super Cup winner Joventut, Israeli club Bnei Penlink Herzliya, Portuguese side FC Porto and Germany's Telekom Baskets Bonn, with the opening fixtures set for October 6 and 7, 2026 — a group where Herzliya's arrangement to play its home games at Bonn's own arena stands out as one of this BCL season's stranger early twists

The four clubs tip off the group stage on consecutive nights. Asisa Joventut hosts Herzliya on October 6 at 20:30 Paris time, and Bonn welcomes Porto the following evening, October 7, at 20:00. All four arrive with contrasting form: a Spanish club fresh off a domestic trophy, an Israeli team still searching for its first league game of the season, a Portuguese club chasing its first-ever BCL group-stage run, and a German side with a jarring split between home dominance and road struggles.

Joventut brings a Super Cup title and the Rubio-Laprovittola pairing into Europe

Joventut Badalone heads into Group H having already won a trophy this season. Under head coach Dani Miret, the Badalona club won the Spanish Super Cup on September 20, 2026, beating Barcelona 101-87 in the final. Nicolas Laprovittola, who arrived this summer from Barcelona, was named MVP after scoring 31 points, including nine 3-points. The club called it its first title in 18 years.

Laprovittola's arrival is part of a busy offseason that also brought in Boogie Ellis from Galatasaray, Isaac Nogues from Valencia, Álex Reyes from Manresa, Emir Sulejmanović from Unicaja and Kwan Cheatham from Reggio Emilia, while Eli John Ndiaye joined on loan from Real Madrid and Yannick Kraag on loan from Dubai. Ricky Rubio renewed his contract, and Ante Tomić, Simon Birgander and Ludde Håkanson provide continuity.

In Spanish ACB league play, Joventut is just 0-1 so far, having lost 104-110 at Breogán, a game in which Laprovittola scored 22 points and Rubio added 18 points with 10 assists. The ACB's own match report flagged Joventut's thin interior rotation as a factor in that defeat. A rain-postponed fixture explains why the club has played only one league game to date.

Tomić and Kraag are both confirmed out for the BCL opener against Herzliya, and Joventut's own assistant coach previewed the matchup by pointing to Herzliya's perimeter penetration and the interior creation of Nathan Knight andDJ Burns as the main threats, describing Herzliya as a team that defends by closing the paint.

Herzliya's playoff run in the Israeli Winner Cup — and a BCL "home" game in Germany

Bnei Herzliya, coached by Yehu Orland and captained by Daeshon Francis, enters the BCL having not yet played a single game in the 2026-27 Israeli Super League — its domestic opener against Ramat Gan is scheduled for October 12, 2026. What the club does have is a run through the Israeli Winner Cup, where it went 2-1: wins over Eilat (101-98) and Rishon LeZion (99-79) before a quarterfinal exit against Hapoel Jerusalem (68-88).

The Rishon LeZion win showcased the roster's scoring depth. Nathan Knight posted 22 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists, DJ Brewton added 19 points with 6 rebounds and 3 assists, Zack Bryant scored 17 with 4 assists, and Dusty Hannahs hit 3-of-4 from 3-points for 11 points. The Hapoel Jerusalem loss told a different story — Knight was held to just 5 points and 4 rebounds, DJ Burns managed 8 points and 9 rebounds, and Amit Gershon scored 15 points on five made 3-pointers as Herzliya shot a cold 7-of-27 from beyond the arc as a team.

The most unusual wrinkle in Group H involves where Herzliya actually plays its home games. Both BCL fixtures against Bonn, scheduled for November 4 and November 17, 2026, are currently set to be played at Bonn's own Telekom Dome rather than in Israel, under an arrangement that would allow Herzliya's nominal home date to shift back to Israel only if FIBA authorizes international games to be held there.

Porto chases a historic first BCL campaign off two trophy-opening wins

FC Porto, under head coach Fernando Sá, is entering its first-ever BCL group-stage campaign, and the club has started the season with two competitive wins. The first came in the Portuguese Super Cup on September 26, 2026, an 80-76 victory over Sporting in which Porto overturned a halftime deficit. Thomas Bropleh, who returned to the club this summer alongside Xeyrius Williams, was named Super Cup MVP with 20 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals, while Corey Allen and Gonçalo Delgado each scored 11.

Porto followed that up with a 110-93 win over Queluz in its Portuguese league opener on October 2, 2026. Bropleh again led the way with 25 points and 6 rebounds, Vlad Voytso added 16, Childe Dundão posted 15 points with 4 rebounds and 4 assists, and Miguel Queiroz chipped in 12 points and 7 rebounds. James Woodard, who signed a one-season deal this summer, joins Queiroz, Voytso, Delgado, João Guerreiro, Tanner Omlid and Allen as part of a largely returning core around the newcomers.

Two wins to open a season is a small sample by any measure, but it gives Porto a platform heading into Group H play.

Bonn's split personality: dominant at home, vulnerable on the road

Telekom Baskets Bonn, led by head coach Marko Stanković, sits at 2-2 in the German Bundesliga, but the record hides a sharp divide: Bonn is a perfect 2-0 at home and 0-2 on the road. The club beat Hamburg 96-72 and MBC 77-72 at the Telekom Dome, while losing at Trier 80-106 and at Würzburg 76-83. Across those four games, Bonn has averaged 82.3 points scored against 83.3 allowed.

The individual performances point to a roster that can produce numbers even in defeat. Against MBC, Jeff Garrett had 19 points and 8 rebounds while Grayson Murphy contributed 7 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists. At Würzburg, Murphy posted 10 points and 10 assists and Joel Aminu scored 14, but Bonn committed 16 turnovers — 10 of them after halftime — and blew a late five-point lead in the loss. That kind of second-half unraveling is the pattern to watch as Bonn heads into BCL play.

Off the court, the club secured its core this summer with contract extensions for Patrick Heckmann, Alijah Comithier and Tylan Birts, while Marcus Foster's preseason agreement was converted into a full-season deal. Birts, however, is still rehabilitating from Achilles surgery; a September 25, 2026 update from the treating clinic, ATOS Kliniken, reported progress but did not give a timeline for his return.

Small samples, big storylines: what Group H should settle

Ranking these four clubs with any confidence right now would be premature. Herzliya has not played a single domestic league game in 2026-27, Porto's sample is limited to two games, one in the Portuguese Super Cup and one in the Portuguese league, and Joventut's Spanish ACB sample sits at just one game. Only Bonn has a four-game Bundesliga body of work, and even that is split cleanly in two — dominant at home, winless away.

What is clear is the shape of the storylines. Joventut arrives with a trophy already in hand and the Rubio-Laprovittola partnership as its headline act, even with Tomić and Kraag sidelined for the opener. Herzliya's temporary home-away-from-home in Bonn adds a logistical subplot that will follow the group all season. Porto's two wins carry extra weight as the first competitive results of its first-ever BCL campaign. And Bonn's home-road split raises the question of whether Stanković's team can carry its Telekom Dome form onto the road once group play begins.

Group H is also linked to Group G at the BCL's Play-In stage, following the same structure already set for the C/D and E/F pairings: the second- and third-place finishers from each group will cross over into a best-of-three Play-In series against their counterparts from the linked group. With small samples across three of the four clubs and a genuinely unusual venue situation involving Herzliya and Bonn, Group H's shape will only start to come into focus once the October 6-7 openers are in the books.
