Group E of the 2026-27 Basketball Champions League Regular Season pits Unicaja (Spain), Pallacanestro Reggiana (Reggio Emilia, Italy) , Utenos Juventus (Lithuania) and BK KVIS Pardubice (Czech Republic) against each other. The group opens October 6 and 7, with Reggiana hosting Pardubice and Juventus Utena hosting Unicaja at Arena Vilnius, as the four clubs arrive with domestic records ranging from a perfect 5-0 to two 0-2 starts.

The road to the round of 16 — and the Play-In link to Group F

Group winners advance directly to the BCL Round of 16, skipping the Play-In stage entirely. Finishing second or third instead sends a club into a best-of-three Play-In series, and that stage directly connects Group E to Group F: the second-place team from Group E faces the third-place team from Group F, while Group F's second-place finisher takes on Group E's third-place club. Every result in these four teams' opening weeks will eventually be read against whatever happens in Group F, making the two groups' fates intertwined long before the Play-In tips off.

With four clubs separated by different leagues — Spain's ACB, Italian Serie A, Lithuania's LKL and the Czech NBL — direct statistical comparison is tricky. A points-per-game average in the Czech NBL does not carry the same weight as one posted in the ACB, and that gap matters when trying to project how Group E will shake out.

Unicaja Málaga: a coaching change collides with an injury crisis

Unicaja Málaga enters the season under new head coach Txus Vidorreta, who replaces Ibon Navarro in what iss a significant transition paired with substantial roster turnover. The 15-man ACB roster brought in Cameron Hunt, Ignas Brazdeikis, Willy Hernangómez, Amine Noua and Simonas Lukošius this summer, while Melwin Pantzar returns to the playing squad after a loan spell at Bilbao.

The ACB results have not followed: Unicaja is 0-2, losing 87-89 at Real Madrid on September 27 and 75-80 at home to Tenerife on October 3, averaging 81.0 points scored against 84.5 conceded. Both defeats were close. Against Madrid, Hernangómez posted 20 points and 6 rebounds, Noua added 18 points and 8 rebounds, and Brazdeikis scored 14. Against Tenerife, Kendrick Perry led with 23 points while Noua and Hunt scored 13 apiece — yet Unicaja won the rebounding battle 39-26 and still lost, undone by 17 turnovers and a 7-of-24 night from 3-points while Tenerife hit 13-of-26 from deep.

Injuries compound the disruption. Alberto Díaz is dealing with a left hamstring injury with a six-to-eight-week recovery estimate, Tyler Kalinoski only resumed contact training before the Tenerife game with his status uncertain per Vidorreta, and Tyson Pérez and Yannick Nzosa are also among the club's early-season absences. Matt Thomas signed a two-month deal to reinforce a thinned backcourt. Watch whether Vidorreta's system stabilizes once Díaz and Kalinoski return to full health.

Pallacanestro Reggiana: new faces, old frustrations in two close losses

Pallacanestro Reggiana, coached by Dimitris Priftis, also sits at 0-2 in Italian Serie A, but the losses tell a story beyond the record. The club overhauled its roster, bringing in Speedy Smith, Rob Edwards, Derek Ogbeide, Riccardo Visconti and Elhadji Fainke while losing Troy Caupain, Stephen Brown, Michele Vitali, Kwan Cheatham and Bryson Williams, according to Sky Sport. Jaylen Barford, JT Thor, Jaime Echenique and a core of Italian rotation players provide continuity.

Reggiana opened by falling 78-83 to Trento on September 26, with Barford scoring 22, then lost 99-93 at Napoli on October 3, averaging 85.5 points scored and 91.0 conceded across the two games. In the Napoli game, Riccardo Rossato led with 21 points while Barford, Edwards and Lorenzo Uglietti each added 12. The team shot 13-of-32 from 3-points (40.6%) but a worse 13-of-39 on 2-point attempts (33.3%), grabbing 16 offensive rebounds and committing 16 turnovers in a foul-heavy contest that produced 61 fouls and 72 combined free throws.

Point guard Speedy Smith is the club's chief concern. Reggiana's official medical update reported swelling around the tibial plateau with no fracture identified, daily assessment and no firm return date, and he missed the Napoli game entirely. Two single-digit losses with a key starter sidelined is a different proposition than two blowouts, and that context matters when reading Reggiana's record.

Juventus Utena: a full rebuild finds its footing in Vilnius

Juventus Utena underwent the most dramatic overhaul of the four clubs. Only four players, Paulius Valinskas and Šarūnas Beniušis , along with Gintautas Matulis and Gintautas Matulis were retained from the previous roster. Head coach Laimonas Eglinskas, in his first season coaching in international competition, now oversees a squad built around guards Chase Hunter and Jack Pagenkopf, wings Tevian Jones and Cameron Reynolds, and center Brandon Huntley-Hatfield.

In the LKL, Juventus Utena sits at 2-2 after dropping its first two games — 84-82 to Lietkabelis on September 19 and 99-84 to Neptūnas on September 23 — before winning back-to-back, 94-77 over Nevėžis on September 27 and 93-77 over Tauragė on October 4, according to LKL.LT. Across the four games the club is averaging 88.3 points, 36.3 rebounds and 15.0 assists, conceding 84.3 points. Tevian Jones leads the team at 17.0 points per game, Cameron Reynolds follows with 15.5 points and 5.3 rebounds, and Chase Hunter adds 12.8 points, with Huntley-Hatfield (5.0 rebounds) and Beliauskas (4.8 rebounds) rounding out the production.

An unusual wrinkle: Juventus Utena plays its BCL home games not in Utena but in Vilnius, with the October 7 opener against Unicaja scheduled for Arena Vilnius. A two-game winning streak heading into European play gives a rebuilt roster some momentum, even if the sample remains small.

BK KVIS Pardubice: the Czech league's best record walks into Europe

BK KVIS Pardubice, under head coach Jan Šotnar, arrives with the group's most eye-catching domestic form. The Czech NBL club is 5-0, having beaten Brno 85-79, Olomoucko 100-54, Hradec Králové 88-78, Písek 92-82 and Ostrava 110-98, for calculated averages of 95.0 points scored, 78.2 conceded and a +16.8 margin — the strongest domestic opening record among all eight Group E and Group F clubs combined.

The roster leans on import continuity in Trey Bonham, Joe Bryant Jr., Ryan Moffatt and Zed Key, with Nick Stampley arriving from Mechelen. Through five games, Bonham is averaging 21.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 2.6 steals and shooting 50.0% from 3-points on eight attempts per game. Key adds 13.4 points and 6.2 rebounds on 75.8% shooting from 2-point range, Bryant contributes 13.2 points and 5.2 assists with 2.4 steals, Moffatt chips in 10.6 points and 5.4 rebounds, Kamil Švrdlík adds 7.8 points and 6.4 rebounds, and Stampley is shooting 47.6% from 3-points while scoring 7.6 points.

Against Ostrava, Bonham produced 26 points, 7 assists and 3 steals, Bryant added 16 points and 8 assists, and Pardubice won the rebounding battle 44-28 despite Petr Šafarčík sitting out. That kind of two-way balance, if it holds up against ACB- and Serie A-caliber opposition, would make Pardubice a serious factor in Group E.

Who leads Group E? Why the early numbers deserve caution

Reading these four records in a straight line — Pardubice 5-0, Juventus Utena 2-2, Unicaja and Reggiana both 0-2 — would suggest an obvious hierarchy. The underlying context argues against that shortcut. Unicaja's two losses came by two points at Real Madrid and five points to Tenerife, with new pieces like Hernangómez and Noua already producing, while several rotation players remain sidelined or uncertain. Reggiana's losses were by five and six points, with Priftis missing his starting point guard in Smith for one of them. Neither 0-2 mark looks like a team overmatched; both look like teams absorbing change while missing key personnel.

Pardubice's unbeaten run is the most statistically detailed sample in the group, but it comes entirely within the Czech NBL, a league whose level differs from the ACB or Serie A — translating a +16.8 margin there into BCL results is not guaranteed. Juventus Utena's 2-2 record, built on a two-game win streak after a rough start, reflects a roster still finding chemistry under a coach new to international competition.

None of this supports a confident 1-4 group prediction before a single BCL game has been played. The first real answers arrive October 6 and 7, when Reggiana hosts Pardubice and Juventus Utena hosts Unicaja at Arena Vilnius — results that will also start shaping which of these clubs might eventually cross paths with Group F in the Play-In.
