The New Orleans Pelicans secured a convincing victory over the Memphis Grizzlies with a score of 114-106 on Friday night at home. This collective performance was led by a particularly effective offensive trio, with Saddiq Bey and Derik Queen each scoring 22 points, supported by Zion Williamson and his 21 points.
Williamson confirms his rising form
The Pelicans star continues his momentum with a fourth consecutive game over 20 points, confirming his return to form after a difficult season marked by injuries. Herb Jones also contributed with 16 points, allowing New Orleans to improve their record to 13 wins and 37 losses.
On Memphis’ side, the absence of Ja Morant continues to weigh heavily. The star point guard was out for the fourth consecutive game due to a left elbow sprain. Morant, who hasn’t played since January 21 against Atlanta, has already missed 25 games this season. The Grizzlies, now at 18 wins and 28 losses, were able to count on Cam Spencer and Jaren Jackson Jr., both scoring 16 points, as well as Cedric Coward (13 points) and Jock Landale (12 points).
A decisive third quarter for the Pelicans
The turning point of the game came after halftime. New Orleans completely dominated the third quarter by scoring 35 points against only 15 for Memphis, opening up a significant 93-76 lead. This period was marked by remarkable 3-point shooting from the Pelicans, who converted five long-distance attempts, including three made by Jose Alvarado.
The Pelicans’ defensive intensity also made the difference, limiting the Grizzlies to their second-lowest point total in a quarter this season. This collective performance illustrates the potential of this New Orleans team when all elements come together perfectly.
Both teams return to action quickly on Saturday night, with Memphis hosting Minnesota while the Pelicans travel to Philadelphia to face the Sixers.
