The Golden State Warriors rediscovered their old rhythm to dominate the New York Knicks 126-113. Without their star point guard Jalen Brunson, injured with an ankle injury Wednesday against Portland, the Knicks fell victim to the Warriors in a devastating third quarter that recalled the glory days of the Golden State dynasty.
For one half, the game between the two teams was extremely tight. The Knicks managed to keep pace thanks notably to Karl-Anthony Towns (9 points and 10 rebounds at halftime), but everything changed in the third quarter. Moses Moody turned into a sniper, compiling 21 points on 7-for-9 from 3-point range for the game.
The Warriors wing lit it up from beyond the arc all night, especially during the crucial 12 minutes of the third quarter when Golden State pulled away. Paired with Stephen Curry, also accurate from distance, Moody participated in a devastating run that shredded the Knicks’ defense. The 37-28 score in favor of the Warriors in that quarter alone sealed the outcome of the game.
Without Jalen Brunson, who had led the Knicks in scoring in their last eight games before his injury, New York struggled to find offensive solutions. OG Anunoby and Miles McBride tried to pick up the slack with 25 points each, while Mikal Bridges added 21 points, but it wasn’t enough against the Warriors’ firepower.
This loss marks the Knicks’ second consecutive defeat and their third loss in four games, perfectly illustrating the critical importance of Brunson in the team’s offensive system. Fans have expressed their concerns about the team’s performance without their leader, especially since the point guard’s absence timeline remains uncertain.
Draymond Green also made his mark, but not only through his athletic performance. The power forward left his stamp on the game through his controversial actions, notably a very hard foul on Karl-Anthony Towns and his exuberant celebrations. This fourth win in five games allows the Warriors to continue their climb in the standings, with a favorable schedule ahead against the Hornets, Heat and Raptors.
