A massive investment in Magic’s future
The base contract amounts to $239 million over five years, starting in 2026-2027 and running through 2030-2031. However, performance clauses will allow Banchero to earn up to $287 million if he wins MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, or makes an All-NBA Team in the 2025-2026 season.
This extension also includes a « player option » for the final year, offering additional flexibility to the 22-year-old player. Banchero joins an exclusive circle alongside LeBron James and Luka Dončić as the only players aged 22 or younger to have accumulated at least 4,000 points, 1,300 rebounds, and 900 assists in their first three NBA seasons.
Banchero’s 2024-2025 season was marked by an oblique injury that sidelined him for 34 consecutive games. Despite this absence, he maintained impressive statistics with 25.9 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game, while shooting 45% from the field and 32% from 3-point range.
A young and promising core in Orlando
This extension is part of the Magic’s long-term strategy, which has already secured Franz Wagner and Jalen Suggs through 2030, as well as the recent acquisition of Desmond Bane, signed through 2029. The Florida organization is betting on this young generation to compete in the Eastern Conference.
The Magic demonstrated their potential this season by reaching the playoffs, where they faced the Boston Celtics in the first round. Banchero shined with averages of 29.4 points and 8.4 rebounds per game, confirming his franchise player status despite the elimination in five games.
This extension represents the biggest contract in Orlando Magic franchise history and demonstrates the confidence placed in Banchero to lead the team to the top of the NBA in the years to come.
