A key locker room leader retained
Having joined the Parisian project in 2023 along with other Tuomas Iisalo loyalists, Sebastian Herrera has established himself as a cornerstone of the team, both on and off the court. As co-captain, he actively contributed to the Betclic ELITE title, the first in club history, even though he wasn’t in the lineup for the last two finals games against Monaco.
« It was the culmination of a cycle for many players who have been together since Germany. Winning against Monaco, with an incredible crowd, is an unforgettable memory, » the Chilean confided in an interview with Encacha.
In a highly competitive roster, the Santiago native averaged 6.7 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 0.9 assists in 28 championship games. In EuroLeague, where he became the first Chilean player to compete in the competition, he took advantage of injuries to secure a spot in the rotation, particularly from January onwards (4 points and 1.1 rebounds in 17 games).
A well-deserved recognition
Despite a challenging start to the season under Tiago Splitter, Herrera remained professional and combative. « I had to fight to prove I could play at the highest European level. I knew my moment would come, so I prepared very hard, » he explained.
This two-year extension also signals Paris Basketball’s desire to rely on stable and experienced players to maintain their presence at the highest European level. While the club is rebuilding after the departures of coach Tiago Splitter to the NBA and several key players like T.J. Shorts, Herrera’s presence provides a solid foundation.
A pioneering figure in Chilean basketball
A true icon for Chilean basketball, Sebastian Herrera is considered the greatest player in his country’s history. « He is our captain, a leader on and off the court. He shows the way for the next generation, » Juan Manuel Cordoba, his national team coach, told us.
