NBA 2K26 promises a more realistic experience than ever with completely revamped gameplay, a redesigned MyPLAYER system, and full compatibility on Nintendo Switch 2 for its September 5 release.
The NBA 2K franchise is about to reach new heights with NBA 2K26, expected on September 5. This 2025 edition promises to be the most comprehensive in the series, with major innovations affecting all aspects of the game, from gameplay to game modes and platform compatibility.
A technical revolution with the enhanced ProPlay engine
The ProPlay engine, introduced with NBA 2K24, takes it to the next level in this new version. Still based on capturing sequences from real NBA games, it now allows for even more fluid, natural, and varied movements. The developers have particularly reworked lower body animations: footwork, running, shooting balance, defensive movements.
This attention to detail translates into distinctive and recognizable gestures for each player. The difference between Curry’s shot and the more mechanical one of Haliburton, who actually participated in development as a consultant, becomes clearly noticeable. The shot meter has also been tweaked to better match the shooter’s abilities, while finishes at the rim have been expanded and blocks better calibrated.
MyPLAYER redesigned for better competitive balance
The player creation system has undergone a major overhaul to prevent the overpowered builds too often seen online. Players will now need to specialize in a specific area – shooting, defense, rebounding, or playmaking – then complete objectives to progress in that sector. This approach forces players to make realistic choices and build a true role on the court.
MyCAREER mode introduces the « Out of Bounds » storyline, immersing players in the Draft behind-the-scenes before it even begins. A new mechanic allows either letting the process run its course or choosing your ideal franchise, adding control to this crucial step.
Nintendo Switch 2 finally on par with other platforms
For the first time, the Nintendo Switch 2 will receive a version equivalent to PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Gone are the watered-down editions: even in portable mode, players will get the most complete franchise experience. This long-awaited evolution opens up the 2K universe to all platforms without technical compromise.
The other modes MyTEAM, MyNBA and The W return with their share of improvements, while The City has been reworked to be more dynamic and coherent. NBA 2K26 will be available in early access from August 29 for Superstar and Leave No Doubt editions, before its official release on September 5.
