Crisis at AS Monaco: the Principality Ready to Take Control
Gabriel Pantel-Jouve

AS Monaco Basketball spoke out this Tuesday via a statement published on its Instagram account. An expected message, after several days of revelations about salary delays and a critical financial situation. But the content, very general, leaves many gray areas.
The club mentions a « structured transition phase », assuring to be « stable operationally » and indicating that « sporting activities continue normally ». A cautious formulation that never references the financial difficulties, payment delays or internal tensions revealed in recent days.
In its message, AS Monaco emphasizes the alignment of « all stakeholders » and the search for a « long-term solution ». The statement is resolutely positive, speaking of an outcome « in the very near future », without specifying either the timeline or the exact nature of the measures being considered.
No mention is made of overdue salaries, unpaid suppliers or recent financial sanctions. The club does not deny the information published in the press either, settling for institutional discourse intended to reassure supporters, partners and observers.
The most notable point of the statement is in its final section. For the first time, the club explicitly indicates that « the Monaco government recognizes the strong image and value of the club and is overseeing the situation ». A significant statement that implicitly confirms an institutional takeover already mentioned by L’Équipe.
This supervision is presented as a guarantee « that the future remains as promising as the Roca Team’s recent rise ». Again, the vocabulary is carefully chosen, without going into detail about the Principality’s exact role or future governance.
Between the lines, this statement appears more as an act of confirmation than a response. It validates the Monaco government’s entry into the matter, without providing concrete elements on resolving immediate problems.
While the club’s financial situation remains at the center of concerns, this message marks an important institutional step, but leaves many questions open about the project’s future, governance and AS Monaco’s ability to quickly regain lasting stability.
