Absent since the start of the season, Theo Maledon (1.93m, 24 years old) might be ready to make his first EuroLeague appearance in Real Madrid’s jersey. Suffering from a groin injury during the Spanish SuperCup, the French international has only made one brief appearance since arriving in the Spanish capital. His coach Sergio Scariolo hopes to give him some minutes this Wednesday during the 4th round against Partizan Belgrade.

Scariolo: « I hope to give him some minutes »

On the eve of the clash against the Serbian club, the Italian coach seemed rather optimistic when speaking to Spanish journalist Pilar Casado: « Maledon is making progress, I don’t know yet to what extent, but I hope to give him some minutes, yes. »

This statement suggests that the former ASVEL, Charlotte and Oklahoma City point guard could finally be integrated into Madrid’s rotation, even in a limited capacity, to regain his rhythm.

An anticipated arrival in Madrid

Recruited this summer to strengthen Real Madrid’s point guard position, Theo Maledon was expected to bring one-on-one playing abilities alongside Facundo Campazzo. His absence has left a gap in the perimeter rotation of the reigning European champions, who have nevertheless made a good start in EuroLeague (2 wins in 3 matches) but are coming off a defeat in Liga Endesa.

A return, even partial, of the former ASVEL player would be good news before an upcoming series of intense matches. The day after hosting Partizan, Real Madrid will fly to… Belgrade to face Red Star.
