EuroLeague unveils new SuperCup competition with inaugural Final Four set for Abu Dhabi

EuroLeague Basketball and the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) have announced the creation of the EuroLeague Basketball SuperCup, a new annual men’s competition. The first edition will take place at Etihad Arena on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, on September 18 and 19, 2026, one week before the 2026-2027 EuroLeague campaign gets underway.
Final Four format and semifinal matchups
The SuperCup will run under a Final Four format with two games per day. The semifinals are scheduled for Friday, September 18, followed by the third-place game and the final on Saturday, September 19, at 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Central European Time, respectively. Four teams will contest the inaugural edition: Olympiacos, the reigning EuroLeague champion; Real Madrid, runner-up in 2025-2026; Fenerbahçe, champion in 2024-2025; and Dubai Basketball.
In the first semifinal, Olympiacos will face Fenerbahçe, while Dubai Basketball will take on Real Madrid in the other. According to BeBasket’s own reporting, Olympiacos-Fenerbahçe tips off at 4:00 p.m. on the Friday and Dubai Basketball-Real Madrid at 7:00 p.m., with the third-place game and the inaugural SuperCup final following the next day at the same time slots.
Dubai Basketball’s spot and IMG’s role in the deal
Dubai Basketball’s presence in the field comes at the expense of JL Bourg, which won the EuroCup in spring 2026. BeBasket’s reporting indicates the choice was a financial one, with Dubai having paid a significant sum to secure its place in the tournament. The agreement between Abu Dhabi and EuroLeague Basketball was negotiated by IMG, a strategic partner of EuroLeague, as part of the competition’s international expansion strategy, notably toward the Middle East.
Ticket prices have also been unveiled for the inaugural SuperCup. Full-tournament passes range from €143 (AED 572) to €359 (AED 1,434) depending on seating category, while single-day tickets start at €55 (AED 220) and rise depending on the day. The launch follows earlier reporting from BasketNews in June 2026, which had already named Abu Dhabi among the candidate host cities and pointed to Olympiacos, Real Madrid and Fenerbahçe as potential participants. Abu Dhabi is also set to host the EuroLeague Final Four in 2027.
