Sasa Obradovic potential replacement for Pablo Laso on Baskonia’s bench

Sasa Obradovic, free since leaving Monaco Basket in autumn 2024, could return to a EuroLeague bench. The Serbian coach is being considered by Baskonia, whose management is contemplating a change after a mediocre season ending with an early elimination in Liga Endesa.

Baskonia considers turning the page on Pablo Laso
Arriving last summer, Pablo Laso failed to bring Baskonia to the expected level. Despite an interesting roster, the Basque club finished outside the Top 10 in EuroLeague (14 wins – 20 losses) and only secured their Liga Endesa playoff spot on the last day, finishing 8th (19 wins – 15 losses), before logically falling in the quarter-finals against Real Madrid.
According to Catalan journalist Óscar Herreros from La Xarxa, « one of the names the club is evaluating if the change happens is Sasa Obradovic, a coach with extensive EuroLeague experience ». The former point guard, who coached Red Star Belgrade in EuroLeague, was still Monaco’s head coach a few months ago. He was replaced in November 2024 by Vassilis Spanoulis after a mixed start to the season.
An experienced profile to relaunch the Basque project
With his numerous EuroLeague campaigns and experience in ambitious clubs like Alba Berlin, Lokomotiv Kuban, and Monaco, Obradovic represents a credible option to lead Baskonia, a club known for its passion but also its high standards.
It remains to be seen whether the Basque club will pursue this option or maintain its trust in Pablo Laso, who is still under contract.
