No EuroLeague for Petr Cornelie: done deal in China with Shanxi

L’Equipe
Petr Cornelie will continue his career in China with the Shanxi Loongs.
The former Monaco player has attracted considerable interest, including from Tony Parker’s Asvel, but he will ultimately play in China with Shanxi next season, as also confirmed by his agent Bouna Ndiaye.
Petr Cornelie is a French-Czech power forward/center born in 1995. He began his professional career with Le Mans, where he emerged as one of France’s most promising young players and won the LNB Pro A Best Young Player award in 2015. He later played for Levallois Metropolitans and Pau-Orthez, where his versatility and three-point shooting helped him establish himself as an effective stretch big.
Selected by the Denver Nuggets with the 53rd pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, Cornelie eventually joined the team in 2021, splitting his time between the NBA and the G League, where he became one of the league’s top rebounders. He averaged 17.8 points and 12.8 rebounds per game with the Grand Rapids Gold in 2021-22.
In 2022, Cornelie returned to Europe and signed with Real Madrid, winning the EuroLeague and Spanish Super Cup during the 2022-23 season. He then joined AS Monaco, spending two seasons with the French club and winning the French League title in 2024. He later moved to Esenler Erokspor in Turkey.
At international level, Cornelie represented France, most notably winning a silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
