Spectacular duel between Timberwolves and Spurs: Wembanyama dominates, Gobert leaves with the victory but a suspension

The NBA announced Monday that Rudy Gobert, the Minnesota Timberwolves center, will be suspended for one game after accumulating his sixth flagrant foul of the 2025-2026 season. This penalty follows the incident that occurred Sunday during the 104-103 victory against the San Antonio Spurs, where the Frenchman was called for a flagrant foul level 1 on Victor Wembanyama.
The four-time Defensive Player of the Year was penalized for letting his feet slide under the landing space of his compatriot who was attempting a 3-point shot. This foul earned him his fifth flagrant foul level 1 of the season, adding to a flagrant foul level 2 previously committed on Mark Williams, bringing his total to six points.
The NBA has implemented a precise point system to penalize repeat offenders: a flagrant foul level 1 equals one point, while a flagrant foul level 2 is worth two points. When a player exceeds five points, they automatically receive a one-game suspension, which explains the penalty imposed on Gobert.
Rudy Gobert is currently the player who has received the most flagrant fouls since the start of the NBA season. He will serve his suspension Tuesday night when the Timberwolves travel to Milwaukee to face the Bucks.

This suspension comes after a difficult game for the French center against the Spurs, where he scored only 2 points on 1-of-4 shooting with 14 rebounds, while Wembanyama shined with 29 points and 7 rebounds.
Now at six flagrant foul points, Gobert will need to be cautious for the rest of the season. If he commits another flagrant foul level 1, he will automatically receive another one-game suspension. In case of a flagrant foul level 2, the penalty would increase to a two-game suspension.
