Cooper Flagg delivered a remarkable performance with 27 points and 3 steals, tying his career high in that category, to lead the Dallas Mavericks to a 113-105 victory over the Brooklyn Nets on Monday night. This performance allows the Mavericks (15-25) to end a two-game losing streak.
Naji Marshall also played a crucial role with 22 points, hitting three consecutive baskets in the decisive moments of the game. Klay Thompson contributed off the bench with 18 points and 6 three-pointers made, tying his season high.
Flagg bounced back perfectly after his poor performance in the 125-117 loss to Chicago on Saturday, where he scored only 11 points on 4/13 shooting. This time, the forward showed the full extent of his offensive talent to guide a team decimated by injuries.
The Mavericks had to play without four injured starters, including Anthony Davis (out indefinitely with a left hand ligament injury sustained Thursday) and P.J. Washington Jr. (out for the third consecutive game with an ankle injury). The team even had to use three players on two-way contracts to fill these absences.
On the Nets side (11-26), Michael Porter Jr. led the offense with 28 points, while Day’Ron Sharpe recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds off the bench. Brooklyn is on a four-game losing streak after being defeated on this road trip, having already lost 103-98 in Memphis on Sunday.
The Nets attempted a late-game comeback, reducing a 14-point deficit to just four points (99-95) with five minutes remaining, but couldn’t get any closer.
