Houston’s Toyota Center was the scene of a memorable comeback Tuesday night. Trailing by 16 points during the third quarter, the Rockets turned the tide to win 111-106 against the San Antonio Spurs, securing their third consecutive victory.

The game started 22 minutes late due to a bent rim caused by Stephon Castle during warmups. This incident didn’t disrupt the visitors, who were quickly boosted by Julian Champagnie’s exceptional shooting (27 points on 8/16 from 3-point range).

Reed Sheppard, the Clutch Performer

While Alperen Sengun delivered a remarkable performance with 20 points, 13 rebounds and 9 assists, clearly dominating Victor Wembanyama in the paint, it was Reed Sheppard who was the true architect of this comeback. The young guard scored 12 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter, notably scoring 8 consecutive points during a crucial stretch with five minutes remaining.

« Reed Sheppard was a driving force in the 13-0 run by the Rockets spanning the 3rd and 4th quarters, » highlighting the reserve’s decisive impact in crucial moments. His contribution wasn’t limited to offense as he also blocked a 3-point attempt by Julian Champagnie in the final minutes.

Kevin Durant contributed 18 points and 7 assists, while Jabari Smith Jr. hit a crucial fadeaway with two minutes remaining.

Victor Wembanyama Struggles Mightily

The night was particularly difficult for Victor Wembanyama, who had his worst performance of the season. The Frenchman scored only 14 points on 5/21 shooting, missing all 7 of his 3-point attempts. Limited to just one field goal in the second half – a putback in the final moments – « Wemby » couldn’t deliver in crunch time against the Rockets’ aggressive defense.

This loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Spurs (30-14), who remain second in the West. The Rockets (26-15) solidify their fourth-place position and confirm their rise with this character victory that could give « a huge confidence boost to the entire team. »
