« Players like that don’t exist anymore today »: Jasikevicius full of praise for Nando De Colo

EuroLeague - Delivering a second solid EuroLeague performance with Fenerbahçe, Nando De Colo once again scored points... and not just on the court. After the victory in Bologna, his coach Sarunas Jasikevicius was full of praise for the French veteran.

Already impressive in his first European appearance since returning to Istanbul, Nando De Colo (1.95m, 38 years old) confirmed his form on Wednesday, January 21st during Fenerbahçe’s victory on Virtus Bologna’s court (85-80), in the 23rd round of EuroLeague. A consistent performance that highlighted his impact far beyond the simple stat sheet.

Another complete game for Nando De Colo

Playing 23 minutes in a heavily depleted roster, Nando De Colo finished the game with 12 points and 2 assists. Without trying to overplay, the French guard brought what Fenerbahçe expects from him: control, precision and valuable game reading during difficult moments.

In the Virtus Arena where few teams leave with a victory (they were 8-2 at home before the game), the Frenchman’s experience counted, particularly in helping his team turn around a poorly positioned situation at halftime.

Rare praise from Sarunas Jasikevicius

In the post-game press conference, Sarunas Jasikevicius made a strong statement about his player, highlighting Nando De Colo’s unique influence on the game.

« What is there to say about Nando? He sees everything, he understands everything. He’s like a coach on the court. You tell him one thing, just once, and it’s done. Players like that don’t exist anymore today », the Lithuanian coach said.

Powerful words from a coach known for his demanding nature and attention to detail, which reflect the complete trust placed in the Frenchman.

A depleted but collectively solid Fenerbahçe

Despite missing many key players, Fenerbahçe managed to rely on a disciplined collective and stifling defense in the second half to win in Italy. The main architect of the success remains Talen Horton-Tucker, who scored 28 points, but the balance and control displayed also bore the mark of experienced leaders.

In this context, Nando De Colo’s role far exceeds his 12 points: tempo management, defensive communication, relaying instructions… all elements invisible in the box score, but essential to this type of victory.

A return that already carries weight

With this victory, Fenerbahçe continues its positive momentum in EuroLeague and confirms its place at the top of the standings (15 wins and 7 losses). For Nando De Colo, these first European outings show that his return to Istanbul is nothing symbolic: he’s already acting as an extension of the coaching staff on the court, capable of elevating the collective level.

And according to his coach, this type of profile is becoming increasingly rare at the highest level.
