When Larry Nance Jr. put on the number 22 jersey for the Cleveland Cavaliers, he was wearing more than just a uniform — he was carrying the legacy of a legend. That same number had made his father, Larry Nance Sr., famous as the undisputed dunk master of the 1980s.
Nance Jr.'s story is one of remarkable transformation. A 5'11" point guard in his freshman year at Revere High School near Akron, he experienced a phenomenal growth spurt that took him to 6'7" by his senior year. This physical transformation redefined his game: he averaged 18.2 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks per game in his final high school season.
At the University of Wyoming, he established himself as one of the greatest big men in Mountain West Conference history, setting school records in blocks. That defensive dominance opened the doors to the NBA, where the Lakers selected him 27th overall in the 2015 draft.
With a 7'2" wingspan and versatile defense, Nance Jr. grew well beyond his initial athletic tools. From a spectacular finisher, he evolved into a complete player, developing a reliable shot and playmaking skills. That growth took him all the way to the 2018 NBA Finals with Cleveland.
After stints in Portland, New Orleans, and Atlanta, Larry Nance Jr. proved he was far more than just a famous name — he was an accomplished basketball player who carved out his own path in the league.
