Noam Yaacov leaves Hapoel Tel Aviv: what’s next for the former ASVEL player?

Noam Yaacov (6’1″, 20 years old), who played for ASVEL and was recently loaned to Hapoel Tel-Aviv, will not continue his journey with the Israeli club. After a season crowned with a EuroCup title, the 20-year-old point guard’s future could be in the United States… provided he’s eligible to play in NCAA.
End of the road in Tel Aviv
Hapoel Tel-Aviv announced this Saturday the end of Noam Yaacov’s stint after a season on loan from ASVEL. Having arrived in Israel to gain playing time, the Israeli international notably contributed to winning the EuroCup title, which means qualification for EuroLeague 2025-2026.
On the European stage, Noam Yaacov averaged 2.8 points and 2.1 assists in eight appearances in the continental competition. He also continued his rise with the national team, being regularly called up for EuroBasket 2025 qualifiers.
Heading to NCAA?
Now that his departure from Hapoel Tel-Aviv is official, the future of the former ASVEL player remains unclear. According to information shared in recent weeks, Noam Yaacov could head to the United States to try his luck in NCAA. A prestigious destination but conditional on potential eligibility validation.
Trained in Denmark and then through ASVEL’s youth academy, Yaacov played 26 EuroLeague games with the Villeurbanne club during the 2023-2024 season. He had already gained experience in Israel during the second half of the 2022-2023 season, on loan to Hapoel Jerusalem, with whom he won the Israeli Cup.
It remains to be seen whether the young point guard will be able to continue his development on American college courts.
