The Czech basketball Finals are underway, and ERA Basketball Nymburk wasted no time asserting themselves at home. In a physical, defense-first Game 1, the regular season’s top team held off BK KVIS Pardubice 81-73, setting the tone early in what promises to be a compelling best-of-7 series.
Bohacik Leads a Balanced Nymburk Attack
Nymburk’s strength on the night was clear: no single player needed to carry the load. Jaromir Bohacik led the way with 18 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists in just under 32 minutes, but the contributions ran deep. Martin Kriz added 12 points and 5 rebounds, while Matej Svoboda chipped in 11 points. Ondrej Sehnal rounded out a productive night with 8 points and 5 assists, and Goran Filipovic contributed 9 points off limited minutes. Five players scoring in double digits or near it — that kind of collective efficiency is difficult to defend.

That balance was precisely what separated the two sides. Nymburk’s offense moved the ball, spread the scoring, and never allowed Pardubice to key in on one primary threat. For a team that went 41-4 during the regular season, this was a familiar and well-executed formula.
Bonham Shines, But Pardubice Lack Depth Around Him
On the other side, Robert Lee Bonham was exceptional. The American forward posted 23 points and 8 rebounds in just 26.7 minutes — the most efficient performance of the night by any individual player. But efficiency alone wasn’t enough. Pardubice’s other American contributors — Joe Bryant Jr. (11 points), Jacob Evans III (7 points), and Zed Key (6 points) — couldn’t generate the consistent secondary scoring needed to keep pace with Nymburk’s collective output.

Adam Lukes added 11 points for Pardubice, but the team’s reliance on Bonham as the primary offensive engine was exposed. When Nymburk’s defense locked in, there were simply too few alternatives to pick up the slack.
A Finals Matchup Built on Contrast
This first-ever Finals meeting between the two clubs was shaped by their contrasting paths to this point. Nymburk swept Opava 4-0 in the semifinals with minimal resistance, while Pardubice needed six games to get past Brno. The fatigue factor, combined with Nymburk’s home court advantage, may have played a role in the eight-point margin.
Holding a Finals opponent to 73 points is no small feat. Nymburk’s defensive intensity was the defining factor of the evening, and it will be the benchmark Pardubice must find an answer to if they hope to respond in Game 2. With the series now 1-0 in favor of the hosts, the pressure shifts firmly to Pardubice’s shoulders.
