The Chicago Bulls have officially traded Ayo Dosunmu to the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to ESPN and Shams Charania. This transaction involves multiple players and draft picks, marking a new step in the Bulls’ rebuild.
A Complex Trade Involving Multiple Assets
Third-year forward Julian Phillips joins Dosunmu heading to Minnesota, while the Bulls receive Rob Dillingham (2024 first-round pick), Leonard Miller (third-year forward) and four second-round picks. These picks span from 2026 to 2032, including the Cavaliers’ 2027 pick and conditional selections from the Nuggets, Warriors, Suns and Rockets.
The Timberwolves have been seeking to improve their backcourt since the start of the season. Mike Conley, last season’s starter, has seen his production drop significantly, while young players like Dillingham and Terrence Shannon Jr. haven’t progressed as hoped. This situation has forced Anthony Edwards and Donte DiVincenzo to take on more ball-handling responsibilities.

Dosunmu Brings Offensive Explosiveness to Minnesota
While Dosunmu isn’t a pure point guard, he offers the Wolves versatility with a player capable of handling the ball and initiating the offense. The Chicago native is having the best season of his career, averaging 15.0 points, 3.6 assists and 3.0 rebounds in 26.4 minutes per game. His impressive percentages (.514/.451/.857) over 45 games demonstrate his efficiency on both ends of the floor.
For Dillingham, it’s a disappointing end in Minnesota. Selected eighth in the 2024 draft after the Wolves gave up an unprotected 2031 first-round pick, he failed to secure a spot in the rotation, averaging just 4.0 points and 1.9 assists in 10.0 minutes per game.
Dosunmu, 26 years old, is in the final year of his contract ($7.5 million) and could receive an extension worth up to $52.4 million over three years before June 30. The Bulls, meanwhile, continue to accumulate future draft picks, now totaling 14 second-round picks after six trades this week. This strategy confirms their commitment to rebuilding.
