Julian Phillips: stats, last game & news

Growing up in a military family teaches you to adapt quickly. Julian Phillips learned this lesson long before stepping onto elite basketball courts. Born in Texas and raised in South Carolina from elementary school when his parents, both U.S. Army veterans, were stationed at Fort Jackson, the young forward developed a chameleon mentality that serves him well on the court today.

This adaptability proved crucial throughout his high school journey. After shining at Blythewood High School, Phillips made the bold decision to join Link Year Prep in Missouri for his senior year, an academy renowned for developing future college basketball stars. The gamble paid off: ranked among the top twenty prospects in his class and rated a five-star recruit by every analyst, he earned an invitation to the prestigious McDonald's All-American Game in 2022.

His college recruitment once again showcased his flexibility. Originally committed to LSU, Phillips was able to bounce back after a coaching change and join the University of Tennessee. This ability to navigate the unexpected, inherited from his military upbringing, shapes his playing style: an athletic forward who relies on defense and collective intelligence rather than individual play.

Rare in the world of professional basketball, this military family background has instilled in Phillips a disciplined approach and a natural team-first mentality. These qualities could well make all the difference in his pursuit of the highest levels of basketball.
