AS Monaco: new DNCCG hearing postponed, player strike threat still present

AS Monaco continues to navigate rough waters. The club’s DNCCG hearing—initially scheduled for Thursday, February 5 via videoconference—has been postponed for a second consecutive time, pushing back the moment when the Principality side was set to formally present its recovery and rescue plan for the Roca Team.
According to L’Équipe, this latest delay does not signal any retreat from the Monegasque government regarding a potential intervention. Instead, it underscores the depth and complexity of a dossier that remains under active discussion, with several structural and financial points still to be fully clarified before a final decision can be reached.
« The case deserves more in-depth discussions »
Contacted by L’Équipe, the National Basketball League confirmed that the additional delay was largely technical. Its general director, Fabrice Jouhaud, explained that “the case requires more in-depth discussions,” adding that “out of respect for the work carried out—particularly by the Principality—no further comment will be made at this stage.”
The postponement comes at a sensitive moment on the sporting front as well, following another EuroLeague setback with a 91–82 defeat on the court of Bayern Munich. More broadly, however, it is the growing financial uncertainty that continues to dominate the club’s day-to-day narrative.
A legal aspect that further complicates the timeline
Still according to L’Équipe, the situation has taken a legal turn. The Monaco court of first instance summoned club representatives this Thursday morning for a commercial hearing, to examine a possible determination of the payment cessation status of SAM AS Monaco Basket.
A development of serious concern, with the club’s debt estimated at around €15 million. In that context, the Principality is expected to require additional time and clearer financial guarantees before moving forward with any formal decision toward a full takeover of the club.
Salaries still unpaid, persistent tensions in the locker room
The threat of labor action relaunched
Still according to Meridian Sport, the prospect of a protest movement had not been ruled out ahead of the trip to Munich. In the absence of a swift resolution, some players were even said to be considering a boycott of upcoming fixtures, with internal discussions reportedly raising the possibility of the club fielding a youth team in Betclic ELITE.
A scenario that highlights the extreme fragility of the current situation, despite institutional messaging that continues to frame the period as a so-called “structured transition phase.”
A lengthening wait
Caught between repeated postponements before the DNCCG, ongoing legal proceedings and unpaid salaries, AS Monaco remains in limbo as a resolution continues to drag on. While the Principality still stands as the ultimate safeguard against collapse, time is increasingly working against a club whose situation grows more precarious by the day.
