While Poitiers Basket 86 (PB86) suffered their third defeat in as many games against Denain-Voltaire (64-76) on Tuesday evening, there was one historic achievement worth noting: the colossal performance of their French center Narcisse Ngoy (7’0″, 21 years old). Indeed, the big man on loan from JL Bourg became the first player in the Vienne club’s history to record a game with at least 15 rebounds in the newly renamed Elite 2 championship (formerly Pro B).

With 9 points, 19 rebounds (12 defensive and 7 offensive) and 4 blocks for a 24 efficiency rating in 27 minutes, the former player of Saint-Maur, Joinville, Paris, Roanne and Rouen grabbed almost as many rebounds as all Denain’s big men combined (6 for Lien Phillip, 5 for Olivier Cortale, 5 for Christian Nelson and 4 for Moulaye Sow). The 2024 U20 European champion breaks the club’s Pro B record, previously held by Laurence Ekperigin (18, on October 11, 2013 against Souffelweyersheim) as reported by La Nouvelle République.

Rebounds: Narcisse Ngoy’s dominance under the boards

With 19 rebounds grabbed, Narcisse Ngoy clearly dominated in the paint, becoming a vital pillar of Poitiers’ defense and offensive rebounding. This rebounding control had already begun at the season’s start with 13 boards against Antibes and 15 in his second game against HTV. His 4 blocks against the Dragons also highlighted his rim protection ability. For his coach Andy Thornton-Jones, his potential is simply immense.

With averages of 9.3 points, 15.7 rebounds, 1 assist and 3.7 blocks for a 23.3 efficiency rating in 29 minutes over three championship games, the Paris region native is currently Elite 2’s best rebounder, shot blocker and has the highest efficiency rating, at only 21 years old. This is very promising.
