Élise Prodhomme, new head coach of JA Vichy

JA Vichy confirmed the news revealed Tuesday: Élise Prodhomme will become head coach of the professional team starting next season. She will succeed Dounia Issa, who has chosen to take his career in a new direction after two seasons at the helm of JAV.

In its statement, the Allier club praised the work of the former French international, who will remain in charge until the end of the current season.

“Dounia performs his mission with rigor, high standards and a strong sense of responsibility. He has put his energy, skills and high-level knowledge at the service of the collective,” JAV emphasized, also highlighting his human qualities and his role in maintaining the continuity of the club’s sporting project.

A recognized profile for youth development

To replace him, Vichy’s leadership has opted for a profile widely recognized for her work in player development. A former professional player who notably spent time with Le Mans, Angers, Calais and Aulnoye, Élise Prodhomme has since built a strong reputation as a coach.

At the head of JDA Dijon’s youth program since 2021, she has also made her mark in national team coaching. She notably guided the French U20 women’s team to the European title in 2023, before taking charge of the French U18 men’s team in 2025, leading them to a silver medal at the European championship.

“I am very happy and enthusiastic to join JAV’s ambitious project, because of its strong values of work and excellence which match mine,” she said in the club’s statement.

She also took the opportunity to thank JDA Dijon for the experience and the support she received at the club’s training center.

“I can’t wait to start working at JAV, a historic club of French basketball, to continue Dounia’s work and to discover the fervor and support of the incredible crowd at Pierre Coulon.”

Dounia Issa remains focused on the end of the season

For his part, Dounia Issa explained the reasons behind his early departure after being contacted to join a new basketball project.

“There is never an ideal time to announce your departure. A few weeks ago I was contacted to be part of a new basketball project. Although I am very happy and fulfilled in Vichy, it was very difficult to refuse such an opportunity.”

The former French international also took the time to thank the club’s leadership, players and staff with whom he worked over the past two seasons.

“I remain now totally committed and focused on our end of season where we want to secure our playoff qualification to make this season a real success.”

While awaiting Élise Prodhomme’s official arrival, all attention remains focused on the immediate sporting objective: securing a playoff spot for JA Vichy and finishing the season as high as possible.

The new coach has signed a two-season contract with the Allier club.
